Altura worked with a Fortune 500 toy manufacturing company to streamline their corporate sustainability program. The goal was to align data collection and reporting efforts with industry-leading reporting platforms including the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The company had previously been tracking and updating a complicated list of key performance indicators (KPIs) – an unwieldy task, which led to wasteful busywork, and hindered their efforts to effectively manage reporting initiatives.
The first task was to help the company cull their list of KPIs down to only the indicators which were meaningful and relevant. Altura created a detailed matrix to organize and prioritize KPIs into three main categories: social, environmental, and economic, and identified areas where missing data were needed. The selected indicators were chosen based on what was relevant for internal and external 3rd party reporting platforms.
As a result of this project, the company now has a much more efficient process for compiling, interpreting and reporting on critical sustainability-related data across global operations, and is poised to increase rankings with 3rd party sustainability platforms.
